Introducing the Foeder

As we teased earlier this week on our social media accounts, we’ve just come into possession of this giant barrel, known in the business as a foeder (pronounced FOOD-er).

Typically used by breweries (which is where we sourced this monster) as a vessel to mature their beers, we’re looking to use this particular foeder as a blending vessel or vat. Perhaps some of you have heard of the “tun” used by a few prominent single malt producers to vat their whiskies. At Leopold Bros, we like the idea of marrying different whiskies here at the distillery as well, whether it’s a combination of different Leopold Bros whiskies, or perhaps whiskey from another distiller blended with our own.

The ideas are already percolating in our minds! More info soon.
